Last week it was announced that, for the first time ever, Pantone had chosen not one but two colours as their Colour of the Year for 2016.

Serenity is a gentle yet airy powder blue reminiscent of freshly washed bedlinen and lazy Sunday mornings.  The soft pink of Rose Quartz evokes feelings of romance and whimsy while maintaining a certain level of composure.

Mindfulness and well-being are buzz-words in modern society and Pantone have selected these two colours as a remedy to the stress and turbulence of 21st century living.  When combined, these pastel hues generate a calmness that is conceived as a expression of the mood among today's consumers.  The cool, restful Serenity balances perfectly with the compassionate Rose Quartz instilling a sense of peace and tranquility - something that surely we all strive for yet find so hard to achieve.

2015's Marsala was like being wrapped in a chunky knit blanket whilst sat in front of a open fire drinking Horlicks.  In 2016 we are being told to forget our woes and be carefree (but still pay off the credit card each month!).  Perhaps by mixing the two we might be able to call the resulting colour Nirvana?

Is this Nirvana?
