CREATE A STORM WITH THE WORLD'S FAVOURITE COLOUR FOR A
STRIKING YET SOOTHING INTERIOR
Since moving to my new home I've been fantasising about living the Scandi-Boho dream - all whites and pale greys, painted wood and loads and loads of texture. Now the clocks have gone back though, I'm feeling a little blue. But I'm not reaching for the Prozac this time, I'm talking about the colour of the moment.
Dulux announced Denim Drift as their colour of 2017 back in September, explaining that blue is a colour which 'spans the spectrum of life' from the depths of the oceans to the sky above and the thin blue line that keeps us all alive. Indeed it is an excellent all-rounder and a colour that most of us are comfortable with, just like our favourite pair of jeans.
In the world of interiors it is the muted grey-blues (like Denim Drift) and deeper, inky tones which are capturing designers' imaginations. Both work in perfect harmony with the trend for brass but, as we head further in to winter, I'm sliding over to the dark side once again and find myself strangely drawn to the latter.
I have to admit blue is by no means my favourite colour - my living room and bedroom are both painted in the same dusky shade and I cannot wait to get rid of it! - but I'm loving the moody blues in the images below.
I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough to paint the woodwork and the walls in the same shade as shown here but it certainly makes a statement!
In this image from Farrow & Ball the walls provide a subtle backdrop for the splashes of gold, which is a great choice of contrast...
The people at sofa.com had the same idea, teaming darks with a bright mustard yellow chaise. In velvet, of course!
I just love the luxe look that H&M have created for their new collection. If you don't want to go the whole hog just add a few accessories to bring a touch of drama to your scheme.
What do you think? Will you be getting the blues this season?
