It’s that time of year again: Pantone has announced it’s eagerly anticipated Colour of the Year for 2019.
Living Coral (Pantone 16-1546) is a warm pink with golden undertones which, according to Pantone, “represents the fusion of modern life”.
A softer, more natural hue than last year’s Ultra Violet it is a colour that is optimistic and playful, signalling a shift in global attitude.
Although pink has been doing the interiors rounds for a few years now the increase in saturation from subdued blush to the vibrant and energetic coral is a significant sign of the times and connects the natural and digital worlds.
However, as a colour that has a strong presence across social media it is also one that is swiftly diminishing beneath the oceans with the destruction of coral reefs. Perhaps it is a timely reminder that we should not only be nourishing and nurturing the things we can see around us but also the things we can’t?
