Something a little different for this instalment of Property Porn. I'm not normally a fan of new builds but this one caught my eye. Although, technically, it's not a 'new' new build - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
The fully restored apartments at Somerset Place in Bath sit behind the original Grade I Listed façade which makes up one of the city's five classical curved Georgian terraces.
All 20 apartments have been individually designed to an exceptionally high standard by award winning architectural design studio Paul Davis & Partners. Only four are still available to buy, the largest of which (a 4 bedroom duplex) is on the market for £1.8m.
We're going to take a tour around the penthouse (natch). With 1,756 square feet of living space spread over two floors and a private roof terrace, apartment 11c is a relative steal at £1.25m.
This is showhome design at its very best. The living room is light and airy - I love the use of roman blinds here, curtains just would not have worked. Sometimes I think professionally interior designed spaces can look a bit intimidating but this scheme gets the balance right. It's calm and elegant without being too showy or pretentious. It's a sociable design too, no need for a tv here - just a few friends over for dinner and a glass or two of vino. Who wouldn't want to show off this place?
As I said, these apartments have a high quality finish, none more so than in the kitchen. Units are by Italian brand Modulnova and each one is fitted with top of the range Miele appliances. Composite stone worktops and glass splashbacks add a classic yet contemporary feel.
The soft grey/blue palette continues throughout, with ochre accents (didn't I say that would be the colour of the year?!). The master bedroom has an en suite, of course, with the two smaller bedrooms sharing a family bathroom on the same floor.
It's all high-techy 21st century shizz too, with Ipad controlled heating and lighting systems (there are thermostat controlled column rads too, for the traditionalists among us).
All the apartments have been designed with orientation in mind: each has south facing views over Bath and in addition 11c, the Penthouse, has a private roof terrace which is perfect for summer evenings gazing over the city.
If you want the best of both, ie a period home with a modern interior, then look no further. This is luxury living at a prestigious address in one of the most historic places in England. Better pop down to the shop and buy that lottery ticket!
All the apartments at Somerset Place are available through Savills, Bath.
