THE RESTORATIVE PROPERTIES OF 2017'S COLOUR OF THE YEAR ARE GIVING US THE CHANCE TO START AGAIN. ARE YOU READY?
I think it's fair to say that 2016 has been a particularly lamentable year socially, politically and economically. So last week when Pantone announced their colour of the year for 2017 as 'Greenery', a zesty, life-affirming shade of yellow-green, it felt as though we were being urged to find our second wind, to regroup and navigate our way through these turbulent times with renewed vim and vigour.
Pantone always endeavours to select its colour of the year as a representation of global attitude: this year's twin shades, Serenity and Rose Quartz, were about taking stock and slowing down; growth and vitality are symbolised by their choice for 2017.
I've written previously about green being the great all-rounder with a shade to suit every mood (and indeed the human eye is more perceptive to shades of green than any other colour) but in Greenery the message to consumers is clear: take a deep breath, re-energise and go again.
We're being offered a fresh start and I for one am going to seize the opportunity with both hands. I'm feeling re-invigorated and ready for new beginnings. I can already see the green shoots of recovery coming through.
