LIBERTY CHRISTMAS

Well, it seems summer has finally arrived and we have been enjoying the hottest week of the year so far.  That must mean it's time to talk about...Christmas!

Yes, the Christmas events are coming thick and fast, from shoot styling to press days, in the interiors and retail industry July is perhaps more Christmassy than December!

Earlier this week I was invited to take a look at the gifts and decorations on offer at the world-famous Liberty store, just off London's bustling Oxford Circus.  I have to say, that getting in to Christmas mode on the hottest day of the year is a bit odd, but upon stepping through the red velvet curtains and in to the most luxurious grotto it felt like party season was in full swing.

The theme was The Nutcracker and the atmosphere enchanting. Life-size Nutcracker soldiers bearing gifts greeted me at the entrance and Tchaikovsky's famous score played gently in the background as I wandered around this kingdom of, not sweets, but treats. Overseeing the whole production was the magical Christmas tree, adorned with baubles and trinkets to capture the imagination.

So, on with the show...

SETTING THE STAGE

All your Christmas needs are catered for from tree to table.  There are beautiful Liberty print crackers and wrapping paper, festive wreaths and theatrical advent calendars.

I love anything with a skull design and so was immediately drawn to This funky Day of the Dead style bauble on the tree. Although there were a few items I could have included along that theme (mainly thanks to Alexander McQueen!) I thought it best not to go crazy so am sticking to just one. He does look like he's having a great time though!

THE MAIN EVENT

With gift giving now probably the most recognised tradition at Christmas, you will find everything you need under the timber roof of the iconic 1920s Tudor Revival building.

This totally adorable cat calendar is a must for any kitty-lover and would make a great stocking filler.

As a self-confessed tube geek, I love this wonderfully eccentric map cushion by Icelandic born artist Kristjana S. Williams.

For the sophisticated lady, how about this gorgeous clutch purse, part of the New Nouveau collection, exclusive to Liberty. Other initials available.

Scented candles are always well received in my book, and the heavenly aroma of this one from Ideo Parfumeurs goes straight to the top of the wish list.

CURTAIN DOWN

Finally, what better way to round off the day with some nibbles and champagne? In Prestat's Kingdom of Sweets munch on mini mince pies, truffles and figgy pudding chocolates...

...wash the whole lot down with a glass of fizz, take care not to leave any nasty rings on the table with these cheeky coasters from Rockett St George.

I hope this has given you a few ideas to make the run-up to the big day a little less stressful. There was so much sparkle and glamour, if I could re-create it at home even I might enjoy Christmas this year!
