As a fan of Scandinavian design I'm always on the lookout for new brands that follow the aesthetic. I've come across a few lately so over the next few weeks I'll be introducing them to you. First up is Murmur.
Although based in Northern Ireland, Murmur's ethos is very much aligned with that of Scandinavian and Japanese design: simple, harmonious and natural. It's easy on the eye and, as the name suggests, there is a subtlety to it which aims to reflect the way in which we live now, with a focus on creating a calm and relaxing home. The understated nature of Murmur (it even feels too much to capitalise the name) suggests that it is more than just a brand, rather an attitude much like the Swedish lagom or the Danish hygge.
The current collection of bedding, tableware and home accessories is centred around a palette of grey, navy and chartreuse. Simple stripes and tiny geometric motifs add interest and have been designed in-house with layering in mind. Pieces sit together to create an overall look that is effortless and informal.
So if you like handcrafted, globally inspired homeware don't keep it to yourself, spread the word. Just do it quietly!
